Richard was born at Boardmans near Tottington in Lancashire on the 7th July 1822. We now believe that he was the son of James Mangnall (JM042) and Nancy Greenhaigh (JM043). He was baptised on the 7th September 1822 at Emmanuel Church in Holcombe.
In the 1841 Census Richard is recorded as living in Hawkshaw near Tottington with his parents and he was working as a cotton weaver.
Richard married Elizabeth Bilsbury (Bilsberry) at St Mary's Church in Bury in 1845 (CE7/6/133). Richard and Elizabeth had at least the following children:-
The 1861 Census shows that the family were living at Birtle Moor. Richard is described as a "Cotton Power Loom Weaver".
At the time of the 1871 Census the family were living in Old Birtle. Richard was a Cotton Weaver and all but the youngest, James, were working in the cotton industry.
The 1881 census shows Richard living at 142 Pits O'th Moor in Bury with Elizabeth, four of the children and a lodger. Richard is described as a weaver. We assume James may have died by then.
Richard died in 1887 aged 65 (RoD Bury 1887 Q2 8c 308 age 65) and he is buried at St John the Baptist in Birtle.
