Alfred was born about 1835 in Manchester (probably in Salford) to William Mangnall (JM109) and Ann. The 1841 census shows him living with his family at St Stephen's Street, Salford. His father William died on the 30th April 1843 and Alfred was then christened on the 10th May 1843 in St Philip's Church in Salford.
The 1861 Census shows him living at 4 Northern Terrace, Broughton, Salford with three of his older sisters. He was working as a buyer or cotton goods.
Alfred married Margaret Taylor (GM141) on the 27th Aug 1864 in Manchester Cathedral. They had at least six children:-
In the 1871 Census Alfred, Margaret and children were living at 13 Teneriffe Street, Broughton, Salford. Alfred was a buying agent for a cotton manufacturer.
By the time of the 1881 Census the family had moved to Alan Road St Hildas in Withington. Alfred was now described as a buyer (for India and China).
The 1891 Census reveals that the family were living at 15 Alan Road in Withington. The census is a little unclear but Alfred is still a buyer.
In 1901 the Census shows that Alfred still lived at 15 Alan Road with Margaret and three daughters Annie, Emily and Margaret. He is now shown as an India and China Merchant employing other people.
Alfred retired from George Woolley and Co. on the 30th June 1907 and died on the 16th November 1911 (RoD Chorlton 1911 Q4 8c 845 age 77).
