Mangnalls in the

The following is a quote from a book called "Responsible Society - the life and times of the congregation of the Bank Street Chapel, Bolton" by G M Ramsden. This exert was originally supplied to me by Martin Briscoe of Fort William in Inverness-shire. Martin is researching the Briscoe family tree. I now own a copy of this book which is available on Amazon.
MANGNALL
Somewhat earlier than this, about the mid-17th. century, Thomas, the son of a Reginald Mangnall of Smithills Hall, married Esther Lomax, who was the sister of James Lomax of Little Lever (p.87). Thomas died when only 23 years of age leaving an only son - James Mangnall later of Hollinhurst, Radcliffe, a merchant.
Louisa Potter, his great-grand-daughter, writing about him states: "He was a man of seme fortune who rode into Manchester with his servant behind him, on horseback, which in those days proved him a man of condition. There are legends of him driving four horses and being an extremely proud man."
He married three times; the only family was by his first wife, Esther, daughter and co-heir of John, descended from the Rev Micheal Briscoe, ejected from Toxteth, Liverpool, in 1662. Briscoe (b. 1619) was educated at Trinity College, Dublin; and settled in Wairnsley about 1640, a joint ministry with Turton.
The elder of the two sons, Thomas, married Mary Bradshaw, daughter of Ellis Bradshaw (trustee) of Wairnsley. The second son, James, married Richmal Kay; the brother of Daniel Kay (below), who married James Mangnell's youngest sister, Mary. The second daughter married in 1767 Robert Pilkington of Bolton, and probably lived at "The Folds". After she became a widow the property was vested in the joint names of herself and her brother-in-law, Daniel Kay.
To obtain continuity, it is necessary at this stage to insert a brief background to another wealthy Presbyterian family - the Mangnalls. Their origin is obscure but appears to have been Harwood. In 1694, Reginald Mangnall died in St.Dunstan's parish in London, where he had been living; he gives his place of birth as Harwood and left the whole of his fortune, said to be about £63,000, to his next of kin, who have never been. traced.
The following family tree is taken from a copy of a page from a document written by G M Ramsden of Sussex supplied to me by Pat Russell who obtained it from Andrew Jackson. Presumably it is derived from the book mentioned above?
Thomas Mangnall (QM005) of Harwood, Bolton married Jennet Nuttal (QM006) of Bradshaw, Bolton in 1665
Their son Reginald Mangnall (PM003) married Mary Roscoe (PM004) of Bradshaw
Their son Thomas Mangnall (NM004) married Esther Lomax (NM005) of Little Lever, Bolton. Thomas died aged 23.
Their son James Mangnall (MM017) of Hollinhurst, M/C first married Esther Briscoe (MM018) of Hollinhurst. He later remarried twice (see below).
James and Esther had four children:-
James (MM017) remarried first to Elizabeth Wilkinson (MM019) of Chesterfield and they had two children, Richard who had no issue, and Anne (LM028) who married a Poole.
James (MM017) remarried for a second time to Hannah Hardcastle (MM020) of York.
James Mangnall (LM022) (died 1784) and Richmal Kay (LM023) (1740/9?-1788) had at least 7 children:
